We held a community meeting in the south side of Chicago two years ago about ending the scourge of crime. The people we met with included parents of murdered children. They knew racists didn’t come into their communities and kill their children; it was the next-door neighbor. Black kids are killing other black kids. The attendees of our conference want us to continue working with them to build on what we started. Your support will give us the resources to do that in Chicago and other cities.
Many Chicagoans walked up to the display we built showing pictures with names of murdered children. Some wept as they found their children and others they knew. They appreciated our approach of cooperation with law enforcement, strengthening families, and providing educational choice.
Our answers are very different than the Chicago Mayor who recently was asked whether more police would help, and answered that in order to reduce crime, they needed “more affordable housing.” It is difficult to fathom such blind stupidity, but he is part of the problem, and we are striving to be part of the solution.
Over 77% of children born to black mothers in Washington DC are born out of wedlock. The out of wedlock birth rate in Chicago is over 80%. Children who grow up without the stability of a married father and mother are vulnerable to the influences of street life – gangs, drug dealers, and other criminals.
In fact, suicide, drug addiction, rape, murder, and incarceration all correlate to the absence of a father in the home. The results are bad for both boys and girls, but boys are especially prone to violence and crime which lead to prison. Most of the victims of crime are other Black people, including innocent children. Seventy-four black children have been murdered in Chicago street violence since the defund the police movement began.
I was born into a broken home and raised in foster care from infancy to ten years old. My father rescued me from foster life at the age of ten. My passion for family is born of intimate knowledge of what happens when children do not have a Mom and a Dad in the home. This is why we established the Family Restoration Institute. Your generous donation to help strengthen families will do more long-term to break the cycle of crime and violence than any government plan or program ever could. |
